  • Overview

     

    The Marketing Data Scientist (MDS) is responsible for conducting complex customer analyses and building & developing statistical modeling techniques to generate predictive models for DEG clients. This role will also own the translation of predictive modeling results to actionable insights that can be utilized across the book of business. In addition, this position may be required to aid the rest of the Analytics & Insight team with data analysis, statistics requests and/or dashboard development as needed by the business.

    Responsibilities

    • Communicate with internal and external clients to understand business needs and provide analytical solutions
    • Use statistical concepts such as regression, time series, mixed model, Bayesian methods, clustering, etc., to analyze data and provide insights
    • Conduct hands-on analysis of customer and campaign data using analytical and statistical tools such as Alteryx/SPSS/SQL/SAS to uncover insights and provide program recommendations
    • Create, implement, and validate predictive models to enhance business knowledge of customer marketing interactions and shopping behaviors, which could include:
      • market basket analysis
      • customer churn and engagement
      • purchase propensity
      • purchase attribution
    • Provide team members with testing & optimization and statistics support regarding design of experiments (DOE) recommendations and expertise to develop testing parameters for split testing
    • In a collaborative environment, partner with other data scientists, engineers, and database administrators of all backgrounds and disciplines to bring analytical rigor and statistical methods to the challenges of predicting behaviors

     

    Qualifications

    • 1-3 years of statistical modeling or forecasting experience 
    • Experience with and moderate aptitude in programming languages such as Alteryx, R, Python, SQL, SPSS or SAS
    • Must possess high degree of aptitude in communicating complex analysis results to Senior & Executive Leadership, both verbally and in writing 
    • Experience with marketing loyalty programs, email, direct mail, and digital marketing a plus
    • Digital agency experience a plus

     

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Training/Systems

    • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Statistics or Mathematics preferred, or any other quantitative discipline
    • Basic understanding of statistical programming in a language such as Alteryx, R, Python, or SAS
    • Experience with Tableau, Power BI or other business intelligence tools
    • Data mining and segmentation techniques
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, clean, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
    • Strong SQL skills
    • Adept at queries, report writing, and presentation of findings
    • Understanding of Retail, CPG, or Marketing Agency business needs
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Able to work independently as well as collaborate within a team environment
    • Results oriented, flexible and open to change at a rapid pace
